2014 Eco-Products International Fairs Open March 13 in Taipei--Record-breaking Number of Participants Gather to Promote Green Trade and Sustainable Development
The 2014 Eco-Products International Fair (EPIF 2014), organized by the Bureau of Foreign Trade, MOEA, Taiwan, and the Asian Productivity Organization (APO), opens at Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1 March 13, and will run through March 16. EPIF, an exhibition rotating among APO member countries since 2004, is in Taiwan for the first time in 2014, with record-breaking number of 207 exhibitors using 437 booths participating in the Fair to promote green trade and sustainable development. Taiwan companies including China Steel Group, freshONE from the Pacific Construction Group, SHINKONG iEcofun, a subsidiary of Shin Kong Group, and HOCHENG Corporation, will join EPIF 2014 along with companies and organizations from 14 countries, including Epson, Fujitsu, Sumitomo Electric, Mitsui Chemical from Japan, BASF and Merck Display from Germany, and those from APO member countries from as far as India, Bangladesh and Nepal.
Implemented by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), with the Taiwan Green Trade Project Office (GTPO) and the China Productivity Center, TAITRA and its 58 overseas offices invited buyers from as far as Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey to visit EPIF 2014. Through 1-on-1 business matchmaking meetings and government procurement meetings among exhibitors and buyers, EPIF 2014 seeks to connect green trade partners worldwide.
Taiwan government, at both central and local levels, also exhibits at the Fair to encourage the public to adopt green lifestyle and to showcase the effort in developing green business and in promoting environmental protection. The Bureau of Foreign Trade, Industrial Development Bureau, Bureau of Energy, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI), Water Resources Agency, Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, Department of Commerce, all under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, as well as Construction and Planning Agency (CPA) and Architecture and Building Research Institute under the Ministry of the Interior, Environmental Protection Administration, and Council of Agriculture, will exhibit side-by-side with Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan County, Kaohsiung City, Tainan City and Yilan County.
Taiwan Green Trade Theme Pavilion at EPIF 2014 by the Bureau of Foreign Trade will feature winners of Taiwan Green Classics Awards in a demonstration house, along with hands-on activities, film screenings and “green story time”. Industrial Development Bureau has built the theme pavilion on “Green Industry, the Coming New Era”, to demonstrate how Taiwanese firms incorporate green thinking into everyday life, sharing how functionalities of products and eco-friendliness can be combined in creative ways.
An array of events facilitating international dialogue throughout green industry will also take place during EPIF2014. At the Taipei International Convention Center, , the two-day APO International Conference will address “How will green energy shape our future?”, “Green consumption and green procurement: Is behavior change the heart of sustainability?”, and “How smart/green can a city be?”. Companies in related industries will gather for roundtable discussion on real estate development, greening of sports events and green financing.
To promote green exhibitions and meetings, TAITRA adopts the ISO 20121 standard on event sustainability management system for EPIF 2014, the first in Taiwan to do so. After passing document review and preliminary on-site survey this past January 2 and 15 respectively, official site review will be conducted during EPIF 2014.
